Remember the name, Camille Thurman. As an accomplished composer, esteemed saxophonist, vocalist, and unique interpreter of the jazz tradition, she is quickly becoming one of the leading standard bearers of the art form, making a considerable and dynamic contribution to the legacy of jazz while paying tribute to its heroes. Camille is known for her distinct musical approach to classic and original repertoire that highlights her powerhouse ability as both a virtuosic saxophonist and vocalist.

The New York City native has amassed several distinctive honors for her musicianship: NAACP Image Award Nominee for Outstanding Jazz Album, recipient of the SOUTH Arts Creative Jazz Road Artistic Residency, Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll Nominee for Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist and Vocalist (2022, 2021 & 2020), 2022 Jazz Journalist Association Nominee for Tenor Saxophone, two-time winner of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award, a recipient of the Fulbright Scholars Cultural Ambassador Grant and Chamber Music of America Performance Plus Grant (Sponsored by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation) among others. Thurman also has four full-length recordings as a leader to her credit. Her most recent project, “Fortitude,” is a collaboration with master drummer Darrell Green and his quartet.

Thurman was the first woman in 30 years to tour and perform full-time internationally with the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as a saxophonist/woodwind doubler (2018-2020 season). A respected bandleader, she has headlined numerous notable concert venues and jazz festivals worldwide, including the Kennedy Center and Alice Tully Hall.

Thurman was chosen by the U.S. State Department under the Fulbright Scholarship grant to tour and perform in Paraguay and Nicaragua as a bandleader. American Music Abroad recently selected her and the U.S. State Department to travel and perform in Africa as a U.S. Cultural Ambassador; Cameroon, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, and Mauritania. In May 2020, Camille founded “The Haven Hang: Young Lioness Musician Q&A/ Virtual Mentorship Series.” The Haven Hang serves as a virtual mentorship series for young women musicians, with an initiative to mentor, share advice and support young women pursuing careers in music and the performing arts. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Performance at McGill University.

Innovative master drummer, Darrell Green is one of the leading, most sought after masterful drummers on today’s jazz scene. As a prolific sideman, bandleader, educator, clinician, composer and producer, Darrell developed his mastery in the heart of Oakland, California.

He developed a style rooted in modern post-bop, but retains elements of his gospel and classical lineage. As a soloist, Green is known for his effortless, masterful technique and captivating rhythms that bring the music to life, taking audiences on a spiritual journey. Many have compared his rhythmic sense of style, inventiveness, feel to the likes of Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and Art Blakey —being deeply rooted in the drum tradition. Though jazz is his primary focus, Green is conversant in every genre from straight-ahead jazz to Latin and West African music.

As a performer, Darrell has toured and performed in notable concert halls and music festivals in over 50 countries around the world, including Jazz At Lincoln Center, The Blue Note Jazz Club, Birdland, The Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall and the Montreaux Jazz Festival.

Green has toured and recorded with leading jazz artists such as Cassandra Wilson, Pharoah Sanders, Benny Golson, Buster Williams, Mary Stallings, Houston Person, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Antoine Roney, Charles Tolliver, Marlena Shaw, Sherman Irby, Steve Turre, Wallace Roney, Stefon Harris, Myron Waldon/Darren Barrett Quartet, Red Holloway, Faye Carol, Amina Figarova, The Black Arts Collective, and Jeremy Pelt. In addition to being one of the most sought after, in demand drummers of his generation, Darrell leads his trio and quintet. He also co-leads a collaborative project with vocalist and saxophonist Camille Thurman. In 2017, Darrell along with Camille were selected to join the American Music Abroad Cultural Ambassador Program — touring 5 countries in Africa (Senegal, Mozambique, Cameroon, Nigeria and Mauritania).

Darrell has a strong belief in mentorship and nurturing the next generation of musicians. He was the product of a community of mentors (including Billy Higgins, saxophonist Bill Stewart, Faye Carol, Wallace and Antoine Roney) that helped him to develop and shape his musicianship and skill. His strong desire and mission to give back to the community has led him to conduct masterclasses, clinics and workshops all around the world. Within his exhaustive schedule of recording and touring, Darrell conducts residencies at educational institutions, universities and cultural centers.
Darrell was the drum instructor at UC Berkeley’s “Young Musician’s Program” for 8 years as well as an instructor at numerous jazz camps across the country and around the world (Jazz Camp West, Stanford Jazz Camp, Lafayette Jazz Camp). Recent educational residencies include Montana State University, Hart School of Music, Queens College, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Northeastern University.

Bruce Edwards, Guitarist. For many years now, Bruce Edwards has been a “first call” guitarist in New York’s diverse music community. His chameleonic ability to change his style and sound to suit the demands of the moment has taken him from doing bluesy rock with G.E. Smith and Lenny Pickett of the Saturday Night Live band in one moment, to the frenetic avant-garde space music of jazz visionary Sun Ra in the next, as well as accompanying artists as diverse as R&B/HipHop group Fatty Koo. As a composer, arranger and musical director, Edwards has also worked in musical theater as part of the development team for the hit Broadway musical, Swing!, as well as on plays by Diane Macintyre, Keith Glover, and others. Other recent projects include composing television and radio jingles for such products as ATT Japan, Johnson & Johnson, Sears, Fuji Film, and a PSA for Action Against Hunger, which earned him a Telly Award in 2006. He has also composed and produced several spots for the TVLAND network, Nick at Nite, Nickelodeon, and in 2003 produced much of the underscore for MTV!s!March Madness Uncensored”, and the “CRIBS” DVD”. Bruce also contributed music and sound design to the recently aired PBS documentary-“This Far by Faith”, which aired in April of 2003.In addition, in his own creative projects he has composed and arranged for various ensembles which have encompassed rock, funk, jazz, hip hop, and free improvisational elements.

Tom DiCarlo, Bassist. Bassist Tom DiCarlo obtained a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Master of Music degree from Rutgers University. He has performed and/or recorded with world-renowned musicians Claudio Roditi, Norman Simmons, Dave Schnitter, Ralph Bowen, Roseanna Vitro, Jim Ridl, Don Braden, Mark Sherman, Jeff Hirshfield, Tim Horner, David ‘Fathead’ Newman, Larry McKenna, Jerry Weldon, Houston Person, Clifton Anderson, Grassella Oliphant, Stanley Cowell, Vic Juris, Tia Fuller, Gap Mangione, Pat LaBarbara, Joe LaBarbara, Sean Jones, Frank Lacy, Orrin Evans, Richard Wyands, Bob DeVos, Yossi Tamim, Chris Komer, Josh Evans, Greg Murphy, Danny Aiello, Bob Mover, Joe Magnarelli, and Steve Johns. Tom has appeared on Cablevision television with groups such as the Ralph Peterson Quintet, Gordon Lane Trio, and his own quintet. He has performed at a variety of music festivals including the Morges Music Festival in Morges, Switzerland, Rochester International Jazz Festival, Billy Strayhorn Jazz Festival, and the induction of the Duke Ellington Day in New York City.Tom was selected by the U.S. State Department and Jazz at Lincoln Center to conduct educational workshops, masterclasses, and performances in Southeast Asia. Tom had the honor of touring with the Mark Sherman/Tim Horner quartet throughout South Korea, China, Russia, and the Philippines. Tom has recently recorded albums with Lou Rainone featuring Ritchie Vitale, and with Yuji Nakamura featuring Jaleel Shaw. Tom also is an adjunct professor of theory lab, director of jazz combo, and double bass at Lafayette College.

Wallace Roney Jr., Trumpeter & Composer. Music has always been a part of Wallace’s family pedigree. His father being world renowned trumpeter Wallace Roney(Sr.), as well has his mother being Universally acclaimed Pianist Geri Allen. Growing up in a household full of music, it wasn’t long before Wallace took a serious interest in playing trumpet. His idols included trumpet giants such as Kenny Dorham, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Lee Morgan etc… At age 10 after showing enormous interest in playing, and a willingness to study harmony, his father gifted him his very own horn. Since then, Wallace has shared the bandstand, and garnered the approval of many legends the likes of which include Chick Corea, Jimmy Heath, Charles Tolliver, Lenny White, Buster Williams, Jack DeJohnette, and the late great Ornette Coleman just to name a few. Wallace, a graduate of the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of music, continues to play in numerous venues and performance spaces across the U.S and internationally, and remains a sought after trumpeter in the New York/New Jersey area.
